After I have read Lonely Planet's recommendation, I stayed at Ned's Hideaway the first 2 days in Seminyak Bali.
This place was highly dissapointing! It was cheap, 80,000 Rupiah per night. The room was very basic, it looks a bit run down to me. The road was very dark at night, with no street lights at all.
When I arrived at 10 pm, the staff were not helpful, no tourist information available at all. They don't offer local breakfast either.
The old lady who works at Ned's during the day was absolutely miserable. She was moody and unhelpful. She even screamed at me when I asked for Indonesian breakfast. She made my first 2 days in Bali "memorable."

If you pay slightly more i.e. I paid 100,000 Rupiah to stay at Agung Cottage in Legian, you can get a really nice fan room in a mid range hotel, breakfast included, with swimming pool & helpful staff. And you are in the middle of action, it's very happening in town and 24 hours guards at the door. Not like Ned's Hideaway which made a single female traveller feeling insecure at night time.

Have never stayed at Ned's but when I talked to the older woman she was cool. A friend stayed in the AC rooms at the back which were simple and fine.
