hey guys and girls,
hope you're all well nearly a year ago i posted a rough outline of what i wanted to do in june but sadly, it didnt end up happening in the end so im putting it off slightly. anyhoo, i changed my route a little bit. what do you think of this? start: london to australia(havent thought of a place yet) over to new zealand (once again, no landing place)-bangkok-india-athens-amsterdam-london is this too much to fit into 6-8 months. i'm not sure if it could do with a bit better routing or padding out. my budget is hopefully around $16k ish. could this be enough? this is just travel money. i'm probably gonna blow $4k more on flights/travel gear. thanks for all your help! |

Here's what I'd consider a minimum for your desired destinations:
Australia: 2 months NZL: 2 months SEA: 3 months India: 4 months Greece: 1 month The Damn: The rest of your life. So, yeah, it's more like a one year trip you've got on your hands here. 16k should be enough, if you go cheap in Oz and hitch hike in NZL. a. ---------------------------------------------- My personal travel website. www.aresthetics.ch/trav ------------------------------ "Nationalism is an infantile disease, the measles of mankind." I think you'll be fine in 8 months. You might not be able to see all of every country, but I think 2 months each in Australia, NZ, India, and then Europe will give you a good place to work from.
16k should be good, especially if you stay longer in India and less in the other more expensive countries. |

Sorry, have to disagree. Two months in India and you have either a) just scratched the surface or b) you are so totally stressed out because you tried to see too much that you absolutely hate it.

welp, as much as i was upset, i had to remove india. well at least for now. in the grand scheme of things, it would have proved too costly. so this is how its looking at the minute:
London (Home) - Cairns then overland with OzExperience to Melbourne - Christchurch then overland to Auckland - Fiji - Bangkok - Athens/Rome (whichever one will then allow me to fly to) - Amsterdam - London (Home) looking at about 5-6 months so far, but allowing a year+ as have no problem with working in AU/NZ if need be which will also mean i am able to go to india as well. but, im pretty much gonna play it by ear, and see where the road takes me. if i end up in australia for 6 months then so be, same with the other countries. does this sound a little better? little upset i cant do south america and india on this trip, but i hope to encompass that in the trip after this let me know your thoughts. thank you so much. |

Oh, come on. I wouldn't visit everywhere in India, but surely you can make a short, slow paced cycle through a region or two in two months and get a good understanding of that particular area. Yeah, you won't have "done" India but you're better off than not having gone at all. As long as you're aware of the timing limitations and don't burn yourself out trying to do everything you'll be fine. To the OP, your new trip idea sounds fine, but just be aware that you can afford 3 months in India (or SE Asia) for the price of one month in Europe or Australia. If budget is the limiting factor you can really stretch your money by spending more time in cheaper countries than you currently are. Of course, it's your trip so do what you're comfortable with |
