I am departing for a RTW backpacking trip on Oct 11th. I am suddenly overwhelmed with anxiety (freaking out a bit). I am worried about how my budget will hold up. I put together a budget from other websites. Can someone with more experience on the matter let me know if the following daily averages (in US Dollars) seem reasonable:
Japan 9 Days $100 per day China 60 Days $35 per day South East Asia 87 Days $30 per day India 60 Days $25 per day Uganda/Tanzania 20 Days $70 per day Egypt 15 Days $35 per day Eastern Europe 30 Days $40 per day Western Europe 45 Days $80 per day Thanks. |

Looks like a crazy, fun itinerary.
Here are my only observations: China - $35 should be fine once you get away from the coast, but it may be tight in certain spots along the coast. Eastern Europe - That's a broad term for a big area. I think $40 would be fine in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Czech Rep., It may not be enough for Slovenia and some other pricier spots. SE Asia - $30 should be more than enough. You will probably be able to save up extra there to cushion some of the other more expensive places. I was traveling with two people so it's a little harder for me to estimate for one. |

Western Europe budget sounds roughly right (I live in england). Just remember that the capital cities are expensive try and stay a little out side the centre. Like London and Paris places with good metro or tube rutes stay in a hosel 3 or 4 stops from the centre and you could have a bomb.

Just remember when shopping on the dollar in England, everything is double price. A 20 pound hostel, is a 40 dollar hostel, tube ride $8 etc. It adds up quick. |

Does this money include ground transit (ie: train and bus tix?)
If it is just for food, bed and fun, then you're set. If you're expecting this to buy your bus tickets too, it might be a little tight. Not impossible, but it could cramp your style a bit. Best of luck! (And remember, it's not too late to take a second summer job.) |

To say nothing of the effect of two-and-a-half years' worth of inflation
