I have a friend who is doing a round the world with four stops: Rabat, Paris, Cairo, and Kathmandu. She will be leaving from New York in April of this year and returning to the same in August. She is in the process of searching for a ticket, but we are both uncertain as to a ballpark figure. She has been quoted $3800.

Does anyone have an idea as to a fair price? Or perhaps some advice as to places to search for one, or maybe a possible other options? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That seems steep. Have you looked into Airtreks? RTW is kind of their specialty, and a preliminary rough estimate that I tried suggested between $2400 and $3200, depending on exact dates etc.

It may also be cheaper to go straight to Paris, then travel overland or book a budget airline seperately down to Morocco. When I plugged that itinerary in, it came up with $2100-$2800.

Kathmandu is not an easy place to fly in and out of since they only have direct flights to a few cities. Delhi, bangkok, Lhasa and a few others - so that might be what is effecting the price. I also recommend airtreks - and if she is interested she can probably do a free stop over, most likely in India.

Many thanks to you both for your help! I flew into Kathmandu from Bangkok some years ago, and before that I came overland from Tibet.

Thanks again!

yeah, that def. seems very high. I would look into some budget airlines and buying the tickets one at a time to see what kind of price you get.
