Hello!
Well, I'm preparing to leave for SE Asia in a few weeks, and am looking at ways to cut costs.I've heard about being a courier; is it viable, and how do I go about finding info? I plan to only take onboard luggage anyway, so may as well courier if its an option.
Also interested in stories I've heard about massive savings by using standby flights; what happens here? Do I just rock up to the airport with my pack and passport on the day, or do I have to get in touch with someone beforehand and arrange it?
Sorry if I sound a little clueless, I've just got all the time in the world, but funds are limited, so dont mind the initial hassle if I can save a few $. Oh, and I'm looking at flying from Sydney to Bangkok one-way (please give opinions on this too, as I'm unsure if one-way is really the best method or not) around the start of March, pretty flexable. Any info greatly appreciated, and if I'm just "dreamin'"; tell me so I can stop wasting my time! If I have to, I'll just pay full fare, but I thought I may as well look into other options first, no harm. I'm just having trouble finding info... anyone more cluey than me?

Hi Bellamee, no you're not crazy--there's always a way. Here's one for you: http://www.courier.org/
A recent fare posted was LA to Hong Kong for $250. I don't know if it's one way or RT. There's a company called airhitch, but I think they only do transatlantic flights, so surely there's another co. that does the same thing across the Pacific. You can look up airhitch.org, and maybe there'll be a link, or at least you can see how it works.

Hey thanks for that!
There do seem to be a few good deals out there, but with all the hassle involved I think I'm just going to take the easy option and buy a RTW ticket! Was worth looking into though; one Aust company that regularly offers cheap courier tickets to London. Maybe another day!
Thanks again!

I've been waiting for years for someone who is a member of BNA to actually do a courier flight.

If you want to try something a little different havea look at Tigerairways.com as they have advertised at the moment Darwin to Singapore for something like $39.98 (+taxes~200) and Singapore to Puket , ChangMai and other asian cities for (are you sitting down) from $8.98

You have to buy the tickets before Jan31, and use the Darwin Singapore between 6Feb and 30 April, the asian ones between 1Jul to 30Sept.

Also have a look at airasia.com for some bloody cheap deals too.
May/June a good length of time to land explore, and when in BK, Khaosanroad will have some cheap travel options.
Missus just came in and said why are you looking at Singapore? - bugger!
Maybe it's time to be single again
