I've been saving for a little while now and I am trying to figure out what my goal should be. I'm willing to wait longer to get the kind of trip that I want.

I plan on spending a little over a year in Europe. I want to be able to say that I have been to every country there. I also want to see the countries, not just be there. I do realize that Western Europe is much more expensive than eastern Europe.

How much would you say I would need for this? I am going to stay in hostels unless there is a very cheap hotel option, I will eat out about once a day, I do enjoy going to musuems and going to shows. This figure will not include my initial airfare, but will include train/plane/bus trips while there.

Thanks!

Its kinda tough to put a figure on it but...

Personally I reckon around £1000 a month is not going to be far off the mark for Europe (like you say, East will be cheaper than West but so the figure is more an average one).

On that I think you could eat out a few times a week, go see a good number of museums (I dont think you'll go short) and enjoy a good few nights out! The figure is based on my experience althogh I think anything less than £800/m is pushing it.

Conversion wise I guess £1000 works out at about $1700.
So...let me figure that out.....$20400...I think.

Thanks! I've been leaning towards 30k, but its nice to know that everyone seems to think that it can be done for less.

guestimates by Bri and LondonCard sound about right to me.

If you decide to rent an apartment somewhere for a month or two you can significantly reduce your accomodation costs. Congrats, BTW, on managing to save up such a sizable travel fund! I am sure you will be able to have a LOT of fun with it!

Thanks! This is only meant to be part one of my rtw trip, but it is the expensive part. It just helps me to save if I have a real goal (besides the trip itself) to achieve!
