Hi guys thought id just use this place to vent some frustration. Im in the middle of planning my round thw world trip strating at the start of next year. I have a rough idea on my route but not on dates yet. AS im from OZ it is a extrmley expensve exercise to get out of teh country t anywhere other than south east asia or new zealand which is why im trying to do so much in one trip. Whats annoying me is there is so many festivals and events i want to get to but there making my life exremley hard to cater for them. For example i would love to go to Carnival and Burning man and also Spring break/ ultra music festival in miami but i cant make them all and i cant figure out whch ones to drop. Not really looking for answers unless u really want to give them lol more just startinga convo to see if anyone else had issues like this and what the did to sort it out.

I'd put Carnival over Burning Man, and DEFINITELY over spring break in Miami, but it really depends on your interests: Do you prefer exotic crazy parties and parades, drugs and weird counter-culture style partying, or beautiful but vacant college students partying it up on the beach?

Well to me its not about spring break but about the ultra music festival as i love my dance music. And buring man also looks awesome to em because its something you can get involved with and party where as carnival looks more boring as you sit in a grandstand and watch the show maybe if you coudl get involved it woudl be different but you have to belong to one of the dance schoosl isnt that correct.

Carnival in Rio, I take it?

They all sound fun. If you like dance music then one of Miami's festivals are top-notch incredible. I haven't done Burning Man, but ...I get a strong "we're cooler than you" vibe from the people who go, at least in recent years. Maybe it's not so bad at the actual festival itself.

Sept 2008 Update - OK, I take that back. I just read some accounts from this past weekend, and Burning Man sounds pretty cool.

Oh, no, Carnaval is anything but boring. I haven't done it in Rio, but I just spent Carnaval in Sao Paulo and a small town in the interior... two completely different experiences, but the most fun I've had in my life. If you choose to do the stands in Rio, it's not just a spectator event for one night... there are street parties everyday for 3 days or so, all day long, costume balls at night, and if you go to the Sambodromo (where the big parades happen) you definitely will enjoy yourself... it's not like going to a stuffy performance. I joined a Samba School in Sao Paulo, an amazing experience.
Bahia and Recife have fantastic Carnavals as well.

i would skip burning man. it's just turned into a crazy drug, sex thing.

wait, that sounds kinda fun!

hahaha.. it would be if it weren't for the fact that this is an art festival that is over run now with partiers who just want a place to screw & drink cheap beer and don't give a crap about the art. i think you could be really disappointed if you were going for the art.
