I've been planning/wanting to take an RTW for more than five years and the day has finally come, I'm sitting in the airport in New York waiting to board a flight to Japan, I can hardly believe it's finally happening

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the words of encouragement I appreciate it. I am in the process of starting a blog at:

http://www.ryansrtw.com/

There isn`t much there yet since I just started the trip but it will be updated soon. I`m also planning to post the photos to my flickr account:

Pics from my previous trips are already up there.

Remembered this thread so I've hijacked it. I leave on my RTW on Monday - at least a year I reckon. First stop Santiago de Chile. This site and all you booties have been so much help to me. I have a small pack (with boots patch roughly sewn on and packing cubes inside), have not over-scheduled and will spend as much time as I like in each place rather than rushing everywhere.

With the help and advice of you guys, I have also got out of debt, quit a job I hated (and then got another one I liked), met my savings goals and reconciled with the fact that my mother is coming with me for the first 2 months! Not to mention all the awesome travel/destination tips which I have hungrily devoured.

I haven't felt this excited in a long time. Thanks to all the mods and posters for keeping me going throughout this period. I'm living the life I want now instead of the one I just dreamed about.

Farewell!
