I would def. go w/ a backpack. What I would do is head over to REI try a few on (and put weights in them so you can see how comfy they are). Then go home and scan for the same brand on ebay, etc. That way you can get it for much cheaper and know that it will still fit you well!

oh also, look for 1 w/ a side pocket - so you can easily reach for things at the bottom of your pack instead of pulling everything out from the top and also look for one w/ a zip off day pack. Those are great since you have a little bag to take along when exploring cities, etc.

WCN - if you're climbing Kili, you might not want one of the zip-off day pack travelpacks. While porters will have your bigger pack, you'll need to carry more than the capacity of the daypack for your climb (they're usually 20L).

I'm taking a 35L pack with a small messenger bag, which means my pricey camera will be in front of me at all times if I don't have it out.
