Hey all,

I have $10,000 saved to travel for a couple of months here coming up. I have May through October of free time before I have to be back at work.

Where would you go and what would you see? I am sure this type of question has been asked a million times on this board, but I can't seem to make up my mind as to where I should go.

Thank you in advanced for replies!

In general for 10K you can travel very comfortably in Asia and South America.

Really depends what you want to see and do. Do you want to stick to one region..like Asia or Latin America. Or do you want to see something in each continent. You can stretch you dollar further if you travel overland.

So make a list of things you want to do...then see where you can do them. Also make a list of countries that have always fascinated you and then shorten that list down...but at first just write down every country that comes to your mind.

I personally would take the 10K to Latin America and then try and get a deal to go see galapagos islands.

I'd personally go to Asia. Don't know where all you've been, but China (Good and Bad, Olympics but Higher prices) and Southeast Asia would be a good choice. You could see the large cities and then go down to one of the beaches in Southeast Asia to cool off.

I've spent many years in Asia, but haven't been to Latin America since the 80's so I would head to Latin America. Or maybe I would go back to Africa. I lived in Ethiopia for 7 years and traveled a bit in the continent, but there is still a lot there that I would like to see.

What do you like to do? Where have you been? Where would you like to go?

We all have different things we'd like to do (I'd probably go to Australia, or back to Europe or South America...actually, SA would be a little chilly that time of year, so maybe not), so help us help you by giving us a little more information.

I think it depends on how long you want to travel. May to October is approximately six months, but you said you wanted to travel for a couple of months. If you just want to travel for two or three months, $10,000 would allow you to go anywhere, even more expensive places like Europe, Japan or Australia.

If you want to travel the entire six months, though, you might be better off sticking to Southeast Asia, Central or South America.

With 10K US, I'd spend about 4 months in India, before taking a small tour of some neighboring countries. Perhaps Nepal, Pakistan, etc.

With 10K I'd be able to take it slow, see a lot, relax a lot and spend more time seeing things and enjoying myself, instead of on buses and trains.

Personally, I'd do 3 months going from Alaska to northern South America over land an then I would spend 3 months going from Ljubljana to China over land (namely via Hungry, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. Maybe I would just choose one or the other, as that is a very lot to do in so little time. But then again its your money...
