Began Gap Year Trip Six Years Ago |
So I have 4 or 5 months left on my contract for my cell phone and if I cancel it they will charge me $150. Now they say they can waive this fee if I can prove to them that I'm not "vactioning" but going to be in India on a job or a permanent basis. I can prove this by a utility bill or something of that nature on my name.
Have you guys used any other tactics to avoid this early termination fee. The vacation plan is useless as it just extends the contract after I re-start the plan. They charge $6 per month to keep the number but suspend service. I use Sprint. My solution, after faced with Sprint's horrendous customer service, was to pay the ransom...money well spent to end my relationship with them...but that does little to answer your question...
I used to just put my phone on the vacation plan, which, in my case was fine...I had no problem with extending the contract, and it was less expensive than paying early termination. I once came across a web site where people sold their remaining obligations to others. cell trade usa never used it, but it might be worth checking out. If you do use it, could you let us know how it works? |

Ransom is the right word. I have been with them for years and even that does not cut it with them. bast****
I found out that I pay Municipal tax on one of my parents property in India(actually mine guess)..which basically means the house is in my name. I'm going to get those papers faxed..hey $150 is $150. Hope that will work. If they won't accept that, they should prorate the cancellation.
Talk to a supervisor and don't take no for an answer. |

Hey Madhu,
I just canceled mine (T-Mobile) by faxing them a copy of my rental agreement. They dropped the cancellation fee. I think they just want, understandably, some kind of documentation that demonstrates you really are out of the country and not cancelling just to switch carriers. I would think your tax bill would work....probably best if it's faxed from India. Heck, you could even *ahem* create a rental agreement-type document. It's just a standard form thing they have at stationary stores. Not that I would ever do such a thing.... _____________________________ Whoever said a dog's love is unconditional has never seen mine stare at a tennis ball. |
