Hey guys and gals,

On the verge of booking a rtw ticket, and just wondered if anyone has any advice who to book it through. Any good experiences/bad experiences with any travel companies. STA, TrailFinders, Travel Bag, a normal high street travel agent ?

All advice appreciated cheer

cheer Gaia,

yeah, checked out those and they look solid. someone heartily reccomended trail finders, so i am going in there tomorrow, with a vague idea of where i'm headed. budget is healthy, 12-14 grand, think i am gonna have difficulties fitting in Africa. North America, South America, New Zealand, Australia, South East Asia, Hong Kong, Europe, back to London when I'm ready. As i say, not deffo yet, but will be by the end of the week, hopefully.

i will be contacting global village www.roundtheworldflights.com to book my ticket.

However myself and my pal whom i am travelling with have researched fairly extensively and our plans whilst being slightly more realistic to the original plans, i have cut the cost form £1400 to £825 pre tax.

westernair.co.uk, this website and travel agent sells nearly all RTW tickets and list rules and airlines that take part in each type of ticket.

I then looked at the routes on each airline website to see were they fly and used the routeplanner on travelbag.co.uk to calculate mileage to make sure route is ok.

So in my opinion its best to do research (this website and http://www.gapyear.com/ are very useful) before contacting a travel agent, so you know exactly what you want and dont end up overpaying

I have seen a few posts with people who have used trailfinders and they seem to have quite expensive tickets, remember some travel agents dont offer all RTW tickets available.

Bear in mind im paying £825 pre tax for
London > Hong Kong (overland around China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Maalysia) > Kuala Lumpur > Singapore > Aukland (overland NZ) > Melbourne Overland Oz > Sydney > Los Angeles (overland US) > Boston > London
