OK - so my husband and I went for our RTW a year and a half ago, managed to get married on the way and really had a great time for 13 months. and we got back, we live in mountains where we love it, we rent, my hubby's back to school to become a teacher and I have rather a stable job. so what's next?? We want to go travel again but we also want to settle down or/and move back to Europe where I am from. What do you do? I loved travelling, but I also remember the stress about it, missing my own bed, sharing hostels with snorers and walking around a town with my backpack just to try to find a place to sleep during a local festival. I also remember all those delicious foods, great people, beautiful mountains that we saw. so when it comes back to our conversations - go again or save up for the "grown up" life? What did the rest of you - second timers did?

'grown up life' and 'to settle down' are the terms society uses to shackle you down. But...this is all about YOU. What do you want?

If you just came back, it's probably going to make sense to stay put a year of so. See how you are feeling after that year. Have you come to loath every-day life within that year? How many times a day/week/month do you sit down somewhere and think 'Life is beautiful.'? How many times do you long to be free of all the expectations and just roam at free will?

Make sure you mark a day on your calendar - so that the grind doesn't let you for get about it.

Then decide where you belong: home or on the road.

That's how I would go about it if I wasn't sure.

Well, honestly, what YOU should do is really up to YOU and your husband. But, what I would do in your situation is....

both.

i would save for a good few years (maybe taking a few smaller trips every now and then) and then once i've saved a tonne, travel the rest of my life...never look back.

You could also think about other options like a working holiday. teachers are very sought after in lots of places. Lots of places it's very easy for foreigners to get a job teaching english, even more so if you're a qualified teacher. The world is your oyster. well. more like a pearl, but thats not how the saying goes...

stonka6, I say go again! I am a little biased though only because my girlfriend (we plan to wed along the way too) are already planning on doing 2 trips. The first one being 2 years to do all of Asia, Micronesia, OZ and NZ. Work for a year and then do another year or so to finish by doing SA and Africa. Did you blog your RTW trip? Where did you end up getting married?

Well as the others have said you both have to do what is right for you both.

You do not say if you've saved the money to go or not yet. If not. Well, draw up the budget and start saving, what have you got to loose if you do that?

Start planning and see where it ends up.

Personally I'd go. But that's me!

We got married in Auckland, New Zealand, last wedding of 2005 Smile I am Slovak, my hubby's American and Kiwis did not seem to mind marrying us Smile
We have some money saved up, but since we know how much it does cost to travel PLUS the biggest thing is to have money to go back to. We came back w/ $500 to our name to a resort town. not so much fun. makes you really think of what NOT to do next time Smile
I think we just really have to look at the big picture and save more, make sure hubby has a permanent teaching credential and go in two years or so. And yeah, why not to go for longer than 13 months then? oooo, just the waiting is hard, the two jobs are sometimes tiresome...but let me tell ya, I can imagine myself not doing that for 15 months Smile)))

Auckland was great choice, what a beautiful country! Waiting for us has been tough and we have never been. I can imagine it is even worse for you guys since you already know the feeling of being out there! Hopefully you can do some travelling in your area to hold you over till you go again!
