I want to know this stuff too, and also whether you purchased RTW tickets, or just bought them as you went, and which system you like better.

I think it pretty much depends on your travel style. I asked a similar question a while back, and in conclusion, when I do go rtw, I'd not want to purchase a RTW ticket. Simply because I'd prefer to remain flexible while I'm travelling...say you met some awesome travel friend/s and he/she/they were going to Egypt/Helsinki/wherever and it's not on your list, then you can change your plans. But if you had a RTW ticket, then you gotta keep to your plans/schedule...

If you're just going to Rome, Venice and Istanbul (from Atlanta and returning there), then you definitely don't want an RTW ticket. I'd try to book a round trip flight between Atlanta and Istanbul with a layover in Rome (you can go to Venice by train). A travel agent should be able to swing that.
You could also probably go overland from Italy to Turkey and back, or via boat. But your mom might not like either of those options. |

Going to these three places only would not constitute a 'RTW' trip, which to many means that you step foot on at least 3 different continents and go in one direction until you reach your origin. So in your case, I reckon a RTW ticket is pretty much not worth your buck |

“As a final statement I would say that if you want to have 100% flexibility while travelling don't buy an around the world ticket, but if money is your main concern do buy one. And do check consolidators before you opt for a worldwide airline alliance. But I won't be very helpful if I say that, bottom line, it's up to you whether to buy it or not before you start travelling. You're the one who knows if you feel comfortable leaving home without a proper plan for the whole trip. You're the one who knows if you feel "safer" having everything arranged beforehand. You're the one who might know your travelling style. I have my own opinion but we're talking about your trip. Hope you make the right choice for your around the world journey.” These two paragraphs are the conclusion of an article I recently wrote about whether to buy or not around the world tickets, according to my own experience. Hope it helps. Cheers! Filipe |

I bought my RTW ticket over the Internet from Air Brokers International. The price was right, and the service was great. I never waited more than one hour to get an email reply.
When I needed to change my dates in the middle of the trip, they arranged it for free. I recommend them from my experience. |
