Hi there. I've been living in Sydney for a year and I am now almost ready to go back to the UK to start work - aaargh! but I figured that I'd get a bit of travelling done on my way home. I'm going via SE Asia from 4th august until october. unfortunately all my friends can't wait to get back to the sunny climate of the UK and I'm all alone sob sob.
I'm fairly independent but prefer the idea of travelling with others - gender unimportant, sense of humour essential. anyone gonna be in that area at around that time. Vicky |

Vicky,
Their loss is your gain. You can travel SE Asia from August to October and you'll have a wonderful time exoeriencing new cultures and seeing how other people live. Let's be honest, life in Sydney isn't much different from life in London, especially during winter. SE Asia is way different and you'll have a blast. Travelling solo will enable you to make decisions and move quickly, meet people and spend as much time as you want doing what you want. You know that Laos and Cambodia are getting more traveller these days but are not as trafficed as Thailand. Maybe a trip up there would be the ticket. Let me tell you after being back in the UK for 2 weeks your friends will be wishing they were travelling again. Make sure you send them plenty of postcards telling them how great SE Asia is. You might contact other BootsnAll members along the way. Just think how great that would be, having a cool local to connect with for a few days! Don't wait for other people, the World is waiting. Hey Vicky - I, too am hitting SE Asia solo - I'll be there from Sept.-early December and plan on Cambodia in September, Vietnam and Laos from mid-Oct. to mid-Nov., Burma, and then Thailand. Let me know if you're interested in trying to meet up. I have set flights to these places (Access Asia pass) but haven't formed any other specifics.

i'm alone too and am in thailand until the end of august when i head to cambodia and vietnam. i will be in laos mid october. SE Asia is so easy to travel in alone and you meet people constantly. my only beef is that if you go off the beaten track at all there are no english books! i've run out and am going slowly insane! but will be able to buy some in chiang mai in a day or so (phew!)
it'd be cool to meet up if your plans are similar? email me! (simacutting@hotmail.com) have fun till then! sima :0) |

travelling solo at SEA is an easy job.I am Malaysian staying at capital city of Kuala Lumpur. You can starts either Singapore and the rest overland, either by rail or road. From singapore, you enter Malaysia by road or rail, make sure u stop at Malacca, historical and oldest city of Malaysia.Stay at any of 4 star hotel and cost u RM 200 which is less than AU$100.Then north to Kuala Lumpur and u can stay at any of 3 or 4 star hotel which may cost u RM 150-300 a day.If u has a good budget, try to stay at Mandarin Oriental Hotel which is next of tallest twin tower in the world.Good shoping centre and garden and centre of everything that u may want to find out at Kuala Lumpur.Visit of the following places is a must:Istana (king palace),Putrajaya (newly gov.admin.city),Batu Caves,Genting Hindland (cool),Pulau Ketam (fisherman island)abount 35 km away from Kuala Lumpur by taking train down to Port Klang and then regular boat availabe to there. From Kuala Lumpur you can take a bus to Penang, island of pearl, great place to visit. From Penang, take a bus ride to hadyai, thailand.city for most of tourists to transit to Malaysia and full of good nightlife, cheap and cool...then u can go to Krabi,do not waste time at Krabi town, nothing much to see.Take a boat to phralang, a sexy island, cheap hotel from bh80 a day to luxury 5 star resort cost bh15,000.good beach and remote. many good diving spot and rock climbing. From phralang, u can take a boat to Phuket. A metropolitan city for tourists especially euro. Another good and no so cheap night life and many, many hotels and resorts. From no star to 5 stars hotels and resorts.Fly down to another island of koh samui from phuket, save a lot of time and this is a popular island full of germany tourists and other euro tourists too. Not manay Asia tourists over here. A good recom. for hotel is Royal Blue Lagoon hotel, family managed hotal with good beach next to it and swimming pool.price bh850 a day of stay for air-con and private bath room. Recorated romatic king size bed and single bed near window and welcome fruits. From koh samui, u can take a flight to Bangkok and then to Pattaya and then to chengmai and chenglai and stop over at korat (east of Thailand).May I write more abount Bangkok tomorrow?
