how would you do it? I'm not all that buxom so they're not going to hide down the front of my shirt! We don't really want to entrust the kids with their own passports and neither do we want to leave them sitting in a pack. Those security wallets are really made for singletons!
They fit well enough in a bumbag (and that's all we've used in the past when we've travelled) but we do know they are easily stolen and we could do without that headache!

Can anyone look outside the box for us?

Why not money belts for both parents. That is what we have done and you can carry a lot in there. My husband often has 3 passports and lots of other stuff just in his if we carry just one. He could add more, so we could both easily carry 4 or 5 each, plus other important things. Get one with several pockets.

It is easy to get distracted when you have young children, but it is easy to also just get into the moneybelt habit, so you do not have to worry.Soon, you will not feel dressed without it. lol.

I'm thinking the older kids could probably be trusted with their own passports as well. I've carried my own passport since I was 11, and haven't lost it yet.

I have one of those PacSafe bags!! Haven't used it yet - I plan on using it for our upcoming bike trip. Hope it works well.

I also carry four passports and it's a pain. We have one of those bags for wearing around your neck and can put tickets, passports, and traveler's checks in there - but it is bulky. Definitely not something I would want around my neck 24/7.

For us, most of the time we will keep our passports well stashed in our bikes, but will have to carry them at times. I figure when I have to carry them I will put them in that PacSafe and hope for the best.

I don't like those money belts/necklaces. They aren't comfortable, and make me feel like I stand out even more! That's just me, though.

I carry this little messenger bag: http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/messenger-metro

It's got a few hidden pockets that I stash my important items in. And it rarely leaves my body (if I have to share a room, it is underneath the covers with me...even if I have my own room, I will often sleep with it).

Although i only carry one passport I hate money belts too and devised a little way around them. I sew interior pockets into all my pants/shorts before I leave. You could try this as well. In fact, if you were to wear cargo pants that would be perfect for days when you don't really need all passports for daily activities but want them on you. Then you could sew the pocket lower down where there is more room, where a cargo pocket would be, but on the inside of your clothes. Even if someone picks your pocket they will never get inside your clothing. The only way to access the items is to go somewhere discreet and put your hands down your pants to grab them (not normally a big deal when you use the standard pocket area but probably a bit more difficult w/ a cargo). Just sew right along the stitch and follow the curve of the exsisting pocket and no one will ever know and you don't need to worry at all! You could fall completely asleep on a bus and never have to think twice about it - it's really pretty nice for ease of mind. Typically i sew a bit of velcro to the pocket as well to keep it closed.

I did the hidden cargo pocket on my pants years ago while traveling in South America - carried my passport and traveler's checks in there. It worked great then, but I'm not sure having four passports in one pocket would work as well.
