I am hoping to depart on a 2 year RTW trip this summer. Starting in Seattle, working my way through out most of Asia, down to Oz, maybe New Zealand, back to Asia, into India, making my way to Egypt, exploring a lot of the Mediterranean countries, making my way to Spain, trying to hit alto of the eastern and western European countries. Once I reach Ireland, I will head up to Iceland, and Greenland, going to Canada, and cruising some US cities, and ending back up in Seattle.

I will be traveling solo, with a budget (which I am working on now), staying hostels, and wanting to travel as cheap as possible. I am very excited about this trip, but I have a few concerns as I begin my planning. So I am looking for some online buddies I can turn to with my questions, and hopefully become lifelong travel friends.

Right now I am planning the 1st part of my trip, which will be 9 months in Asia. So I am looking for advice on jobs there for a 36 year old American, with no college degree, but having 18 years in the hotel/bar/restaurant field. I am not looking to make the big bucks, just enough pocket money to get me some food or a ticket to my next stop. I know South Korea is out of the question, but if I get a TEFL/TESL certificate before going, would I have a chance at teaching in some of the other countries? If so, which ones. I am also curious about visas for some of the countries, such are there any I should get before leaving the US, and will I always have to have an exiting ticket when going to these countries? I really want my next stop to be influenced by my mood, and people I talk to in the hostels.

Take care everyone, and I look forward to the many friends I make here……

I had the same reaction to Potts. I passed on vagabonding twice - once for rough guide's first time round the world and second time for the practical nomad.

Then, I watched his google lecture online and decided to give the book a shot. Really happy I did.

I think the book is really great at making sure you stay in the right mindset as you travel. Don't limit yourself to that one book though - there are endless resources on long-term traveling. Good luck!
