Let me suggest a region and leave the floor open for people to suggest a destination and provide some details about where to go in it.

The idea is that this is a useful thread for a RTW trip planner to find something to do for ONE WEEK in a country/region(if the country is small).Often that's all the time one has if one is travelling long and to many places. yet one has to see the country, not in a hurried way, but as well as one can in the period..so a good balance between staying local, seeing the landmarks, partying and having fun living the good life has to be struck..specially because this is going to be a long trip). If I don't find enough people responding, I might extend the time for responses/ worst case- move on to a different region...because the idea is to find as much information as possible about a region.

The first region I'm going to ask about is mainland South East Asia.


I'm planning/dreaming/organizing my thoughs for my RTW..

this is a call for help.

I'm trying to make a list of places I can travel
1. as road trips
2.as short island hops by boat/airplane
3. by railway.

within or around country-neighborhoods.

If I decided to land in singapore and go by road (maybe by motorcycle/ bus/train) all over south east asia, my questions would be :

1. Which countries would I see?

Thailand
Malaysia
Cambodia
Vietnam
Burma

2. where would I go in each of these countries?

please suggest road/boat accessible places in each (maybe five places each) I know where to go in many of these countries, but am looking for the wisdom of people who have been to these places and have some happy experience. What did you do when you went there.What was fun? what's special about a place?

3. What is the state of transportation?

what's available , what does it cost? how much time does it take to go from place to place?

If all these questions overwhelm you just suggest a place IN south east asia and tell us how to get there from the nearest big city.
