how much money do people usually save up before they buy a one way ticket out and move around abroad (not just europe.. i'm talking about EVERYWHERE) for an indefinite amount of time? i know a lot of people teach english; how long do you wait until you start adding to your funds?

and one last thing, i know this is a stupid question, but are there any requirements for maintaining citizenship?? Razz

1) Interestingly, IMHO most people who post about indefinite travel seem to leave with barely anything, like less than $1000. I think the type of personality who is fine jumping into the great unknown without a safety cord doesn't mind going one step further and do with with no cash.

2) I will only speak for the US, but there are absolutely no requirements for maintaining citzenship. In fact to relinquish your citizenship you have to jump through 40 hoops and some big ceremony.

Case in Point: Hamdi. Hamdi is a Saudi who was born in Lousiana but moved back to Saudi Arabia when he was still a todler.

In 2002 he was captured in Afghanistan and held as a enemy combatant until authorities realized that because he was born in the US he was an citizen (a fact Hamdi didn't even realize). In the end Hamdi was forced to renounce his citizenship, but it just shows how difficult it is to lose a citizenship, even one you didn't even know you had.

I left Canada for Europe with CAD$1000.00 - I blew that in the first three weeks and all of a sudden became a lot less picky about jobs and accommodation. From there, I lived on what i made working. It'll six years come May.

I think the trick is to have a little bit in reserve, tucked away - just enough to scrape by for a week or two in case the worst happens. That did a lot to relieve anxiety when the worst happened, and it did a couple of times.

Don't you watch the movies Xoom?

Even though you're out for good, you need to pull off one last big heist :-) to set you up.

Just watch out for that double-crossing member of your crew who'll take your loot, leave you wounded and put you on a path to bloody revenge.

OK cool, but which one of us is going to double cross Xoom?

Yeah, but even though you can't trust me and I'm a screw-up, the fact that we grew up together means you have to go out on a limb and include me anyway, despite the protests of the other 10 :-)

Don't worry, you'll get your money in the end by either out-thinking me or pulling off some outrageous stunt-driving in those minis you mentioned earlier.
I'll be left at the mercy of the Russina mafia guys I tried to screw over.

And don't forget to walk off together in a line at the end, all looking cool.

Hang on you three - you can't end it there and have absolutely no mention of romantic interest screwing things up just a little. Two guys, one girl, risky heist and a double crosser amongst you all. You can't tell me that there is no tension between the three of you. Wink

p.s.
If you want, I'll run the safe house til the heat dies down.

Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on....

Well really there's supposed to be 11 of us, not just 3. So are you in, or not? Because if you're not, there's a car waiting to take you home.

We don't even have a Plan A yet...

Here's my suggestions:

1. Breaking in to BnA Headquarters and taking their vast fortune from under their noses.

2. Breaking into Xoom's parent's place using her spare key, and taking their vast fortune from under their noses.

3. Breaking into Elvie's... you get the picture.
