Hi, my girlfriend and I are planning a 2 year trip around the world starting in November 08. We have been looking at a number of sites offering round the world tickets and the cheapest seems to be AirTreks, is this a reliable company to book through, or could it be a risk booking through them?

This is the trip we have penciled in,

London - Shannon - New York, NY - Miami, FL - Lima - Mexico City - Los Angeles, CA - Honolulu, HI - Papeete (Tahiti) - Rarotonga (Cook Islands) - Auckland - Nadi (Fiji) - Sydney

We really like the look of this as we get to see everywhere we want to.

Our other query is about Australia where we have been looking at hiring or buying a campervan. We plan to stay in Australia for roughly 4 months. Does everyone think it is worth buying our own? The issue we have with this is that neither of us have any idea about cars and engines so if anything went wrong we wouldn't know what to do. If we did decide to purchase how much should we budget for? there are only two of us and we don't require anything fancy.

Sorry for all the questions we really just need confirmation.

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Hi Chris,

BootsnAll has partnered with AirTreks for many years to provide RTW tickets for our community. We're impressed with their set-up and their service. I would be curious to hear of others experiences though so you have a more balanced opinion.

Can't help too much with the campervan question, but you can always look into purchasing some roadside assistance (like AAA) when you're traveling. In Queensland it would be the RACQ, in New South Wales it would be the NRMA, in Victoria it is the RACV.

I used airtreks in 2001 and they were great.

There was another thread about airtreks a few months ago and a few others posted their experiences (I think they were all on the positive side).

it seems like most people who used airtreks liked it on this board, but the biggest issue was having to lay out the money upfront for the entire ticket vs. buying tickets as they traveled and started with just one ticket one way...

The one on boots is really easy to use and fun, you can come up with a million combos and the program does all the work

Josh is off to Europe soon, but if your curious read about his past trips around the world I'm 25, why isn't 100 countries and 7 continents realistic in a lifetime...40 and 5 down...
