hello, I just joined and already love this site, anyway I am due for a RTW trip beginning in either Jan, Feb or March. I am in Washington State and am wondering which route (go East to S.America first, or West to Oceania first?) I should take to get to (ideally but still open to different places) Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Cape Verde, Cuba, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Ghana, Namibia, India, Nepal,Thailand, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, Somoa....(give or take which ones are too expensive to get to or stay in) Basically I am trying to find a really good list of the rainy seasons for the regions and also get an idea of which direction would be more economical (I have heard that the direction makes a difference?), I have about 10k for 8 months. I am very open to and appreciate suggestions etc...especially about what types of tickets are best to buy...wow, I have so many questions Eek

here are the ones I know about:

most of North Africa is very hot in the Northern Hemisphere's summer and still quite hot in late spring and Autumn (ie, 80ish degrees in Marrakesh October). It never gets really cold in winter, but does rain a bit.

further south in Africa, it's rainy during our summer, but it's not cold and tends to rain hard for half an hour a day, or not at all.

Thailand is coolest during our winter and rains from about may to october, but is wettest during the middle of that period. at either end of the rainy season (ie, may) you can get one day that rains torrentially, then it's dry for a few days.

NZ basically has the opposite seasons to north america/northern europe. August is winter, which in the North Island is mild with possibly a little rain. Winter in the South Island is v cold, with lots of snow and some roads etc can close due to the weather. Even in summer, the South Island has unpredictable weather, but the North Island is reliably warm and sunny.

the lonely planet website has good country guides, which include weather and costs of accomodation, food etc. so you may find that a useful starting point.
