well, i'm just beginning to plan a trip around the world and am a little nervous about travelling alone, especially being a girl. i have spoken to lots of people about my fear, and all reassure me that i will meet lots of people and will never be alone if i so choose. still i haven't met any girl's that have gone solo to check out places like botswana, cairo and singapore. i'd really appreciate it if someone can ease my mind about going it alone. cheers, daisy

Hey guys, the lads and I have been working on a new section of BootsnAll, that focuses on round-the-world traveling. We should have it up soon, and once we do I'll pop back in here and post the link to it. Hopefully that will give you a little more help as well.

In the meantime though, what are some of the particular things you're trying to figure out?

daisy,

Okay, the new thing I was talking earlier is up, and here's a link to our profiles of RTW travelers:

http://rtw.bootsnall.com/profile/

There are lots of female travelers in this list; I can't remember which ones specifically, but I think I did see some of those countries in with the places they said they visited.

Hi, I'm sort of in the same situation as you are, heading off by myself to all sorts of potentially sketchy places. I have never travelled by myself either and had the same sort of concerns as you do.

I would definitely take the advice of people who have done it though. I have never heard of anybody being lonely or truly "alone". (of course, I haven't done it yet either so what the hell do I know?)

Anyhow, best of luck to you!

I'm a man and have met solo female travellers around the World. The ones who seem to do the best are the confident relaxed ones.

We have article written by solo women traveller that are insightful.

Here's one by Jen Leo ( the most connected person in the World ).

Anita Culp's opinion is pretty positive.

David Savage offers his take also.

I think solo travel is great as it allow total freedom to move and be flexible to go with offers of dinner, accomodation, shared travel etc.

Go for it!
You will like Singapore - very clean, virtually no crime due to strict law enforcement. Don't know about the other 2 countries. I suggest you stay in a Youth Hostel if there's one - you'll meet lots of travelers there.
