I know this question has come up before, but what type of work have people done to make their way around traveling? I have this fantasy of just hopping on plane one way, and making my way around for a year working as I go when I need to.

I swear, I have posted so many times over the last two months, and must seem so directionless and confused...and thats because I am! Torn between wanting to up and leave for a long time, like this post, and then wondering if traveling for a shorter period, like a month or six weeks, would be better, so that I could keep my apartment. I guess I'm just throwing out my fantasies and hoping to have some clarity soon. So all and any responses are appreciated!

Yeah...so work as you go? How? Where? Doing what? Logical?

Sounds cool to do that Erin, and I'd be going with the longer travel as at least you're not paying for an apartment then.
As to work tho, getting casual work in the western countries with lower unemployment is probably going to be easier than what it'll be in developing/asian nations other than for TEFL.
Only problem you can run into is where countries have work visas and employers might be more cautious tho, I've met people in Europe and Australia working without permits, and often easier to do so away from the cities.
Alternately to stretch the funds there is www.wwoof.org or www.helpexchange.net.
If you are still eligible, you could head for NZ again on a whv, pretty heap to Oz, ETA (visa) free, and Darwin to Singapore with www.tigerairways.com about $100, and then some cheap asian living.

Well I´ve been trying to safe the money I need working as a waiter in Ibiza Spain. I started last August and September, then I went to Barcelona and worked there from November to the midle of March. I´m now in Ibiza since the 15th of March and I´m planning to stay until midle of October. Always as a waiter, always in Spain, although I´m Colombian.
It´s hard and boring but it´s gonna be all worth it =)
