I get scared of souvenir shopping, at home I buy local or fair trade products but on the road its more difficult. So I thought it might be nice if we get a list going of fair trade items to buy abroad. I know you can also go to local craftsmen and negotiate good and fair prices, but I also find it interesting to be able to buy fair trade products close to their places of production. So maybe we can make a list?

In Senegal, I was really happy to find outlets of Maam Samba Clothes and textiles. Theres a shop in St. Luis alled Keur Fall which sells the products, as well as an Atellier in the Centre Culturell Francaise in Dakar.

Hi Ellis

I'm a big fan of Fairtrade and when at home try to buy FT items as much as I can but when I'm travelling they're harder to come by (and to be honest I rarely buy souvenirs anymore as I'm on the road so often).

I think buying products from the locals who created them is the most important factor. Local markets are always a great spot; if travellers give traders a good price and don't haggle too much then that's sort of Fairtrade on the street, eh?
