I had posted this on another section in response to someone, and it occurred to me that some people on this thread might be interested in this information. I just found out myself about AAA's "friendship" with Detroit at the expense of the environment.

I recently read an article about how AAA has been lobbying heavily on behalf of the auto industry and against the environment by using the clout of their huge membership (even though most of their members don't realize what they're up to). In response, I have switched from AAA and joined Better World Club (based in Portland, OR), which offers most of the same benefits as AAA without the side-effects, and is proactively environmentally friendly, even donating a percentage of their annual revenues to environmental cleanup and advocacy.
