Alright folks,
I made a post a while back about Ong Bak, and, after seeing Kung Fu Hustle, I know there's so much great ass kicking to see, and so little time to dig for it all myself. What I'd really like to be able to track down are some of those flicks that actually came on Kung Fu Theater. You know, the local independent channel (RIP, I don't think there are any nowadays) with the really bad dubbing, and every feature had the old guy with the goatee. Eh, this post is a bit scatterbrained, so please, just feel free to post some of your favorite martial arts flicks. Oh, and action is much more important than plot ------------------------------ Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...we won't get fooled again. Insert Stereotype Here |

I'm not a huge martial arts fan, but I like Bruce Lee's Hollywood flicks especially "Enter the Dragon"
The only other fight flicks I can think of that I enjoyed were "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Hero," with Jet Li - both like "whoa" <>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<> |

Google "Shaw Brothers kung fu flicks", or something of that nature and you'll find plenty of titles.
By the way, I saw the One Armed Swordsman starring Chao Wen zuo (don't know his name in English, but the last name is Chao, or Zhao) for the first time last year and was stunned by the visuals. It was really good film making! Very stylish and intense. Not sure if this is also Shaw Brothers' though. |

There's one called "Crippled Masters" where, I shit you not, a guy with no arms and a guy with no legs team up to wreak some kung fu mayhem.

So, I have the following three movies on the way:
The Crippled Masters Master of the Flying Guillotine Five Fingers of Death All are from that nifty greencine site someone recommendedin a thread on chiat chat. Oh this should be good stuff! And thanks for the recommendation skobb! ------------------------------ Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...we won't get fooled again. Insert Stereotype Here |

Holy crap! How could I forget about "Master of the Flying Guillotine"? That's a great flick, Chris. It's kind of like old school Mortal Kombat since there is no real plot and just a series of increasingly insane battles. You'll love the yoga guy whose abilities include being able to stretch his arms out to 10 feet long and swing them around wildly.
If you're looking for something newer and you haven't seen "The House of Flying Daggers" then I recommend that one as well. It's beautifully shot and there are a few excellent fight scenes (plus Zhang Ziyi...yowsa.) |

Crippled Masters was excellent! I loved the way they hooked together at the end to whup some evil villain ass. But the nuttiest part was watching the dude without arms swing that staff around.
I've watched a bit of flying guillotine, and it looks very promising. That flying guillotine does have to be the baddest weapon ever. Five fingers of death wasn't too bad, just a bit long for my taste. Now I have a terrible addiction to dvd's by mail. I have aboot 20 movies in my que. This can't be good! I've added "The House of Flying Daggers" as well. People keep mentioning "Hero", have you seen that one skobb? ------------------------------ Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...we won't get fooled again. Insert Stereotype Here |
