Not sure if we have a thread out there for quotes but what are some of the quotes that are about or inspire travel for you?

Here's one that recently caught my eye:
“‘How does one become a butterfly?’ she asked pensively. ‘You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.’”
- Trina Paulus

I've used this one in more than one post and still thinks it sums it up for the vagabonds of the world

quote:
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

-- J R R Tolkien

What more can be said about the love of travel.

Nice. Nice.

Here's another one I like:

The Double Life By Don Blanding*

How very simple life would be
If only there were two of me
A Restless Me to drift and roam
A Quiet Me to stay at home.
A Searching One to find his fill
Of varied skies and newfound thrill
While sane and homely things are done
By the domestic Other One.

I like that one it's just plain soothing. I love reading poetry and nothing quotes like it. I am keeping this thresd on my notifications. There has got to be others out there with some great quotes.

Here is the one travel quote that I know of by the Bard himself.

To climb steep hills requires slow pace at first.
--William Shakespeare

Here's one by one of the greatest cynics that ever lived but he believed in travel.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
-Mark Twain-

Give me a raft and a river and away we go.

What a nice thread! Can't resist to contribute...

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm just on my way."
-Hermann Hesse, in "Siddharta"

I translated it from the orginal German version:
"Ich gehe nirgendwo hin. Ich bin nur unterwegs."
I'm sure there's a better way to translate it, my English version might sound a bit strange and it "feels" different than in German.

Any better suggestions?

I love quotes ( as you can tell by our website) Wink and here are two that I particularly like because they express my feelings towards our travel situaton:

“To my mind,
the greatest reward and luxury of travel
is to be able to experience everyday things
as if for the first time,
to be in a position in which almost nothing
is so familiar it is taken for granted”

Bill Bryson

And

"Whereas the tourist generally hurries back home at the end of a few weeks or months, the traveler, belonging no more to one place than the next, moves slowly, over periods of years from one part of the earth to another. " -Paul Bowles

“I am always doing that
which I can not do,
in order that
I may learn how to do it.”

Here' one that I think is so cool for international travellers...

When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.

"You will find it is all familiar,
the strange and faraway places where you've never been
The wild unknown leads you to a place,
Just around the corner,
Take a picture when you get there,
The road is you..."

"Of the gladdest moments in human life, is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of Habit, the leaden weight of Routine, the cloak of many Cares and the slavery of Home, one feels once more happy. The blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood . . . A journey, in fact, appeals to Imagination, to Memory, to Hope, the three sister Graces of our moral being."
- Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton

A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. ~Lao Tzu

Travelers never think that they are the foreigners. ~Mason Cooley Cracking Up
This one was just too funny. I mean I have actually heard Amercican tourists say them damn foreigners while in their country. It is sad and laughable at the same time.
