I just got this awesome, huge and HEAVY book from Rough Guides. It's pretty new -- I got it from the Coop at Harvard about a month ago, a few weeks before it became available on Amazon.

The book is full of SO much information.

I find it a great companion to Lonely Planet's Bluelist. In addition to the blue and orange color scheme on them both, LPB features the new, up-and-coming and offbeat destinations for serious travelers, while this book is as close as you can get to a guide to the world.

The book is particularly heavy on festivals (Love Parade, Burning Man, Carnival EVERYWHERE) as well as active activities (track gorillas in Uganda, climbing Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka) rather than SEEING things. Which I like very much.

I did count -- and, having traveled within North American and Europe, I have currently done 19 of the 1000 things on the list. (One of them -- visit Harvard Yard -- I was only a hundred yards away from when I was reading the book!)

Has anyone else read this book yet?

Crazy? Not quite.
It's all in the name of an interesting life.

I bought it for my husband for Christmas. It was one of those gift you can buy for someone else though you secretly want it for yourself. We've had great fun reading, browsing and randomly opening the book and pointing our finger and imagining a trip including that destination or experience.
