Return to the Sea by The Islands and the new album by Angels and Airwaves.

Mundian to Bach Ke by Panjabi MC is a good song, but the remix with Jay Z is a lot better. Clubs play it all the time!

"It was the most efficient campaign I have seen in my 20 years in politics." -- Sam Burrell, alderman of Chicago's West Side 29th Ward, on the phenomeal Project Vote! voter drive of 1992 which was responsible for adding 150,000 black voters to the Chicago rolls. This helped Bill Clinton and Carol Mosley Braun win Illinois in the '92 elections. The project was spearheaded by an unknown 31-year-old lawyer and community organizer by the name of Barack Obama.

The weather has finally warmed up and stopped raining, here at least... that means it's time for some dub. This is a mix my boy put down a couple years ago. Drops a lot of Eek-a-mouse, so clearly it's good... though I think he might have repeated a couple tracks towards the end cuz he was stoned, which is imperative when listening to dub. So, light up a and enjoy.

Justin Howse - Dub Mix '02, or track 22 here

(It's a full mix, so the file's a bit large....)

Count Down Our Days, by the Fembots from their new-ish record "The City."

The Fembots are a wonderful country-pop-rock-folk-indie band from Toronto.

A lot of their music (especially the older stuff) used odd instrumentation (clocks, power tools, childern's playroom instruments, etc.) in concert with more traditional stuff.

Their new record still has some interesting stuff (saw, glockenspiel) but it's not quite so "experimental" as the first couple.

Vienna Philharmonic. It's a classic recording of the Beethoven 5 & 7 on one disc. One of my Desert Island CDs.

This song gets me weepy. Because it's the song they played as Claire said goodbye and drove into her future on the finale of Six Feet Under. What a stunning finale for an incredible show. Devastated, I was (I don't want give any spoilers for those who haven't seen the end yet). 2 boxes of Kleenex.

"Breathe Me" by Sia.

This was an itunes file, I tried to convert it to be playable as mp3 -- let me know if I was successful.

Oh yeah? Do you know the date? Amadou and Mariam are playing for free at the Detroit Taste Fest... good music and good food, how can you go wrong? Unfortunately it's over 4th of July weekend, and I'll still be in Europe Frown Well, sad face for missing the show, not for being in Europe.

Oh, and Manu Chao is playing Lollapalooza in Chicago beginning of August...

And I just figured out why Sia sounded familiar. She sang on a few tracks on a Zero 7 album, and did some stuff with Massive Attack. Hadn't heard her solo stuff. Thanks Ms Christina.

Ah! They're going to be in Central Park too this summer! I'm really excited to see Amadou + Mariam!

Here's the link for Pete Rock, Jean Grae, Lady Sovereign (and curated by my favorite Bhangra Spinmaster DJ Rekha). They're playing July 30.

I'm working on a list of cheap & free NY for all the booties, I'll get it up soon because the concert lineup this summer at the free series around the city is very impressive this year.
