Book and movie reviews came up in a few of my classes recently, and a couple of students chose to say something about the Diary of Anne Frank, and guess what: others in the group had not heard of it before Eek Maybe there is some timing reason (weird reading list for those who went to school in socialist Czechoslovakia), but come on.

It made me think of this: what books seem to you to be "required reading material"? It could be because they deal with important topics, or just because you liked them for some reason, or maybe came across them while travelling or preparing for a trip.

Also, I don't mean literal required reading as just in school - but for all of us.

I'm not really sure why Anne Frank would be required reading, yes, it's good and all but I'm not sure why it would be a must read.

I think it's hard to come up with must reads as a must read for me may not have any importance to someone else. Books strike people differently and they have to find the one that speaks to them. I guess then that a must read is one book that changes your thoughts, actions or understanding in a significant way.
