Here's something I found a bit interesting:

Pacific Traveler's, a travel supply store (including books) in Santa Barbara, CA, will provide free upgrades for guidebooks. So if you buy, say, the current Lonely Planet Japan, they will provide you with the new version once it comes out. They'll have to keep your name on file, and I'd suspect you'd have to pick it up personally (although maybe they'll ship it to you). I thought this was a neat option for those who use guidebooks thru more than one edition.

Has anyone else ever heard of this option? Do other bookstores/travel supply stores offer this anywhere?
