Hey all,

I recently bought a box set of all Michael Palins travels so far and was wondering which one people thought was best....

I just watched Around the world in 80 days and also Pole to Pole and must say Pole to Pole really grabbed me. Just started to watch Full Circle but it all seems a bit more set up and organised....

Would be interesting to see what people think...

Chris

I enjoyed them all: Himalayas, Pole to Pole, Around the world in 80 days, and Sahara, but I have to say Pole to Pole was most fascinating!

Have you read any of his books? I really enjoyed Hemingway Adventure which has him retracing Hemingway's footsteps from birth to death. Very interesting.

I am a bit biased. I liked the 'Full Circle' one the best because it is the series I travelled with him in one of the segments! I was working for BC Rail at the time he came through in the summer of 1997 and I rode with him in the private car we blocked off for him on the 'Cariboo Prospector' (our rail passenger service) from Vancouver to Prince George. It was a day I will never forget. He was really nice and very friendly, and even though he was really tired and (I think, truth be told) a bit sick of meeting yet more new people by that stage of his journey, he was gracious and polite and interested in learning about what he was seeing.

Wow that must have been amazing!!! did they do a lot of filming that day? I've alway been curious as to the logistics of filming this type of program...you see him get on a train that only runs once a week and there are still cameras filming as the train pulls away....how do the camera crew get on? Big Grin

Obviously you wont know this answer, I'm just writing down my wonderings... Wink

Himilayas is my favorite- there's a bit where a man is singing a traditional song to him, and he responds by singing the lumberjack song for the man.

I caught an episode of one on the Travel Channel today where he was at Hemmingway's childhood home. Is this a new one?
