Chaps

I have a unique position here - a cool publishing house in town has asked me to recommend to them any classic travel books which are currently out of print. These will then be included in their new collection. I have been racking my brains (I am still upset that Mungo Parks last journal hasnt be found...) but am sure someone out there is bound to have some hot ideas. So, post them here, I will be the bibliographic work and make sure they get to the top of the 'to be published' pile,

Here's a start...

Logbook for Grace, by Robert Cushman Murphy, is a fantastic book about a young scientist joining a whaling ship in 1912 to do research. The book isn't his his scientisfic account, but the running diary that he sent back to his wife of the sights, scenes, cultures, wind & waves,... find an old copy and you'll see that it deserves to be in print again.

Out Island Doctor, by Evans Cottman, is about a 1940s midwestern teacher who chucked it all and moved down to the Bahamas... learned medicine, bought a boat, and became indispensable.

Eothen, by Alexander Kinglake If this is not in print then it really needs to be! Kinglake travelled around the near east in the 1830s like a few hundred other Englishmen, but he wrote a different sort of book about it, and it's great.

...and Most of Richard Halliburton's adventures have been re-released, but not all.

If it looks like any of these will be published then please let me know as I have friends who'll want to know.
