Not released until September, The Darjeeling Unlimited looks like it may have some appeal to this bunch.

I saw it yesterday and it has become clear to me that Wes Anderson understands my movie going needs.

"What did he say?"
"He said the train is lost."
"How can a train be lost? It's on rails."

Excuse me while I go on a quest with my peacock feather. Razz

My friend who loves Asia saw it and loved it.

My friend who is not as much into traveling said it was boring.

Who's seen it and can report back?

I love Wes Anderson, but I didn't like this one. I just didn't think there was any depth to the characters. No love connection here.

Anyone taken the toy train to Darjeeling?? Its a fascinating train ride, and one of the few with switchbacks that use gravity assist to go up some parts of the hills.

I loved that ride. The cars are tiny, about 8 feet wide and 20 feet long, and the engine was steam. Fascinating.

I'm afraid I took a nightmare-from-hell ride in a jeep to get there rather than the train. Never again. But I did take the toy train up to Ooty in South India and that was amazing.

I just saw it and thought it was okay. You can't really go wrong with Adrian Brody and Owen Wilson (even if his head is all wrapped up).

I spent five months in India and it was fun to see a movie about people traveling in India. It's somehow a little less about travel than I expected, but I still agree that many booties would be interested.

If anyone has traveled in first class on a train in India (and seen the movie) - let me know if it looks like that! I could be convinced to pay five or six times the price of second class for that compartment.

Thinking about it now, I actually believe this movie could have been shot without ever setting foot in India.

I really quite liked it and will watch it again when I can live with the sort of languid nature of the Wes Anderson ouvre.
