I really seem to be attracted to the Eyewitness Travel guides...They are made from glossy style paper, everything is color coordinated and not black and white like Rough Guide and Lonely Planet. Anyone have an opinion on these guide books compared to the competition. I am thinking of getting the India one, while it is thick seems pretty good. I am not looking for a guidebook that will tell me where to stay or where to eat, but more for what to see and about each place.

Thanks

I like them just to inspire myself on things to see in a country. While buying the LP or Rough Guide I always leaf though a eyewitness...never bought one though.

I have a Hawaiii one that somebody gave me. It was lovely to look through the pics.

I have used them a couple of times. They are great if you already know or have an idea of the place, so lodging and transport does not matter. I think the last one that I used was in London, which was great for the museums and galleries.

Overall I still like LP the best in general though.

Yep, I agree with the previous comments. I love looking through them...they really whet my appetite for traveling. But I generally prefer LP for my actual guidebook.
