Just felt the need to bitch for a minute.

I was checking out prices for the new rolling stones tour, and, holy doodle, ticket prices top out at fucking $450 PER TICKET!!!

Of course people will end up paying it. But really, why would you want to pay $225 per hour to see a band perform?

Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned or something, but I think concert ticket prices should top out at around $25 each. I've spent $50 a couple of times, but that was definitely the exception rather than the rule.

I know this really has no direction, so...how much are you willing to spend to see your favorite band?

I find it amazing that after so many years, the Stones can still command that much for a ticket.

If this was a just world, the Rolling Stones would be on the County Fair circuit by now, competing with pig races and puppet shows.

Maybe the Stones are planning on playing to an all V.I.P. crowd?

I would pay Rolling Stone prices to see Bjork play live.

The most I've paid for a concert ticket so far is $90 to see Metallica (front row hehehe) and $80 to see Prince (almost the back row but still amazing)

I regularly pay $20-50 for a show, if I dont get in free. So expensive but SO FUN!

Damn, those guys lost touch with reality a LONG time ago. 30€ is normally my limit for a concert, 60€ for a day pass to a festival and 90€ for a full festival pass (but the line-up better be really good).

In terms of greedy behavior though this is nothing new for the stones, there used to be a bar in Vienna called the Rolling Stone, they actually sued them and made them change the name. It was just a regular small bar, not a huge club or anything. I'm surprised they haven't tried to sue Bob Dylan yet, but then he spoke/sang the words first after all.

Ha Elis, that's what I was thinking.

The Rolling Stone is singular for one, and if anyone's going to sue the bar it should be Bob's estate, or family.

But really...

Wow, that's pretty amazing. The lawsuit should have been dismissed on the count of Bob Dylan's song.

Well, I haven't been to a concert in ages. I was going to pay a couple of hundred or more to see duran duran in Vegas, but it conflicted with a travel date.

I guess that's just another good reason to like music outside the mainstream...it's still affordable to see the live performances!

Didn't Michael Jackson break the $1,000 ticket price whenever he performed at MCG some years ago?

We dont get big international acts touring often so when a band rolls into town its a really big deal, so I agree with Mina I would also fork out $450 to see Bjork.

But usually I will pay AUD$50-$100 for a gig.

The band would have to be handing out unlimited alcohol, food, and orgies for me to pay $450 dollars a ticket! I also don't listen to mainstream music so that blows my mind that someone would request that much for a ticket..I mean what happened to "loving the fans"...its not all rich biatches that enjoy their music..what about the middle and lower class? I just think prices that high are tasteless and reflect poorly on the band. I've never spent more than $50.00 on a concert ticket.

I'd pay $450 to see Björk if it included roundtrip airfare to Iceland. I would never pay that much to see the Stones, especially when Keith Richards is really dead Razz. The most I've paid is probably about $60 for an all-day festival. Oh wait, I went to Woodstock '99, and that was like $250 I think for a whole weekend. I much prefer $10-25 shows.

I'm definitely on the non-mainstream music fix... most of the music I listen to now the artists can't charge a lot because not many people (relatively) know who they are. However, being a musician, I also know that playing live is how they make their money, and with recent inflation I don't mind paying more than what I used to think was acceptable if it's a good show. Now that I think about it, I'm kinda bass-ackwards. I'm more willing to pay more for underground talent because they need the money more than mainstream artists, and seem to appreciate you coming to their show more. I'm the same way with buying music. I'll buy CD's or vinyl from underground artists because they need the support more, and they actually see more of the money. Whereas with mainstream record sales, the label gets most of the cut, so I don't feel as bad about downloading it. And if I do buy mainstream music it's usually used, anyway, so the only one getting my money is the vendor.

I love catching bands before they hit it big. The best shows are the 150-200 people venues, and they rarely cost more than 20 bucks.

Now if that was the deal, I would gladly pay $450!
