I'm just here to strut around and point out that not only is a new Bill Bryson book out, but that I may be the first Boots member to own a copy.

The new tome is entitled "African Diary" and has a scant 63 pages. All proceeds benefit CARE International.

I haven't read it yet, I have been too busy wagging my tail at the prospect of a new Bill Bryson book.

Whoa, I see that this post was made last December, but I must chime in...

I became in instant fan of Bill Bryson after reading "In a Sunburnt Country" but read one of his "America" books about small towns in the US and was totally bummed out. He came across as a snob and kinda racist. I should say that he never outright wrote anything racist, he just always walked a line that I wasn't comfortable with.

Anyways, I can't read his stuff anymore on principle and I hate that cause he made me laugh alot. oh well

But if anyone knows of any good travel narrative arites LIKE Bryson, I'd love to hear of them!
