Are there any Truman Capote fans here? I've actually never read anything by him, but I saw a recent trailer for the film Capote and it sparked my interest. The film as Oscar written all over it.

I'm thinking of reading "In Cold Blood" which is largely what the movie deals with.

I've only read Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I thought it was great. In Cold Blood is obviously a good place to start re Capote, but Tiffany's might even be easier -- it's a very quick read.

I read In Cold Blood at perhaps to young of an age and have been scarred ever since. The descriptions of the family getting shot and killed were pretty gruesome and realistic from what I remember, but then again, I read it a LONG time ago.

In Cold Blood is one that I read years ago, and parts of it still stick with me.

As far as Breakfast at Tiffany's I have a beef with that movie. I have a rant, I'll spare everyone.

But did anyone ever see Murder By Death a Neil Simon movie spoof on detective novels? He's in that as Lionel Twain.
That's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's also got Alec Guiness, Peter Falk, James Coco, David Niven, Peter Sellers, ...and it's Neil Simon. Silly funny. I'm bad because I can't remember the women actresses names. My dvd is packed, so...

It's fun to see Truman in that role.

We had to see it in English class. I hated it. But I'm sure the book is a lot better.

I'm into horror so In Cold Blood never struck me as particularly gruesome. I also read it years ago, I want to read it again now 'cause I don't remember much of it.

I've yet to read an Capote, but must agree with Jedi on Murder By Death. It's one of my favorite comedies.

I saw a screening of Capote last night with Philip Seymour Hoffman as Capote. I don't remember having seen any real interviews with Capote so I don't know how accurate his portrayal is but he really did seem to capture the essence of the character. It does a good job showing what can happen when a writer gets too involved with his subjects and his behavior starts affecting their lives and his own story. There are some really good scenes between Capote and Harper Lee - clearly friends since childhood. She knows his weaknesses and vanities and call him out on stuff like only an old friend can. I recommend it.
