I've known people who could be in the midst of several books simultaneously. The one time I tried it, I kept looking for characters from one story in the other. Apparently it's just way too taxing for my wee brain. So how about you?

Question:
How many books at a time do you tend to read?

Choices:
One at a time
Multiple books at a time
Books? What are those?

I'm a one at a timer but on rare occasion I can stretch it to two. I'd rather just read one at a time, I feel like I can fully enjoy a book better that way.

At any given time I usually am reading 3 - 5 books. The key is reading books that are very different. Right now I am reading "A Course in Miracles", Nature Girl" and "The End of Poverty". Not likely that I will confuse any of those plot lines.

I find that it's kind of fun to read differnt styles at the same time. I just finished a three book parley of "The Practical Nomad", "The Hobbitt", and Zane Grey's "Riders of the Purple Sage". Getting ready to start "Dune' Bulterian Jihad", Louis Lamour's "Comstock Lode", and Ralph Linton's "The Study of Man".

Jessie there soesn't seem to be anything about that essay you put on the boards although I'm still trying to find if the is more to it but Linton's book looks fascinating and if you want I'll send it to you when I'm finished give me about a month O.K.

You got me, I'm a multiple.

The thing is that there are different books for different moods. I'm working on the life of MaoTse Tung, how could I possibly always be in the mood for that, no way!

I think people who constantly have to be reading something are multiple book people for that reason. Sometimes I've GOT to pick up a book, but am not in the mood for the one I recently started.

Another issue is that I'm a constant Bible reader, and people who do that bite and chew, bite and chew, variety, variety, and it carries over to other reading.

I'm a one-book-(at a time)woman! I seriously can't understand how others can do it, reading so mnay at the same time, or why. I get so engrossed in a book and usually I can't put it down, you have to pry it out of my hands. I like giving it my undivided attention and absorbing as much of it as I can before moving on to the next. I do, however, read multiple magazines simultaneously.

I tend to either read multiple books at once or non at all. It will always be books that are in different genres, like a sci fi, a biography, and a non fiction. I dont think I've been very conscious of this habit until I read this thread!

I usually read 6 or more books at a time. I got problems man! My father says my place looks like New York Public Library and books are everywhere. I just pick up whats near and start reading. I read mostly nonfiction so that works. If I get into a great book though I am compulsive and read it in one night. I am trying to clear up some clutter and have many grocery bags filled with books- I give them away to friends when they visit
