I lived in NYC a couple of years ago. I'm going back in a few weeks and I don't really know anything about where to buy music there now...I know Virgin etc but where do I buy really good music in Manhattan?

You didn't really specify what you mean by "really good music", but besides Virgin, for current artists there's always Tower Records: one of 4th street, the other on Broadway and 66th(there abouts) street near Lincoln Center.

For some out of print records/CDs a popular one is Academy Records at 12 W 18th street near 5th avenue.

You're right, I should've specified.
But the thing is: I eat everything. Rock, blues, jazz...some hip hop etc. Pretty much everything but hardcore techno.

I appreciate your recommendations. Perhaps any used records stores?

There is always Kim's Video on Bleecker or any of the smaller music shops in the West Village area, amy of which have good used cd sections. Check along McDougal too, I think there are a few there.
