I'd recommend going to these two sites and looking for reviews:

www.dpreview.com/

www.cnet.com

I've got the Canon S5 IS and I love it. Especially with the optional 430EX external flash attached.

It is a bit bulky but much smaller/lighter than a DSLR.

It has a 12x optical zoom which you can use while capturing near dvd quality video clips at 640x480 30fps with stereo sound.

But you really can't go wrong with any of the recent Canon Powershots. I've owned more than a few over the years and have been very happy with each of them.

Definitely do some reading at the DP Review site. Also avoid most of the lower priced stores that are based in NY or NJ. They will hassle you to sell extra accessories and sometimes tell you the camera is out of stock if you don't buy extra stuff.

The reliable sites in my experience have been BeachCamera.com, BuyDig.com (easy "confirmation" phone call), NewEgg.com and Amazon.com.

I like my Canon G7 for travel. Its point and shoot and takes excellent pictures. 6X optical zoom, 10 megapixels, excellent macro feature. I highly recomend it!
