Howdy everyone:

I'm about to begin a 6 month trip across Asia and am about to invest $1000-$2000 US in Minolta brand SLR lenses. I've heard that prices in Bangkok are rock bottom. Would those Thai prices even beat the lowest available here in the states? Just wondering. Any response appreciated.

cheers,

Caleb

If you are really serious about Minolta SLR lenses email me and I will sell you some or all of mine if you want. I only use FAST lenses (such as 80-200 f2.8, 85 f1.4, etc.) and they are all in EXCELLENT condition with original boxes and because I need to raise money for a new adventure, I need to sell them.
email me at my name and URL or contact me through my web site in my signature.

I am not to sure about Minolta brand specificly but I looked into buying Canon equipment overseas and decided not to because there is no warenty for the equipment. If I am spending a few grand it is worth it to me to know that if it doesn't work I can take it back.

I can totally understand that. I have used a bunch of different camera brands in my life but for some reason I always come back to Minolta. I guess it was when my Nikon got stolen in High School Minolta had just invented auto-focus, when I replaced my camera I bought a Minolta and since then almost all of my cameras have just been Minolta. Right now I have a 3000i a 9xi a 650si and I just bought a Dimage Xi digital. They have always served me well but I just don't use them very much anymore. I use my Leica for travel and now my new digital will replace that.
If you want to talk about any of the gear just drop me a line. Good luck with the decision.

Even with some serious bargaining I never found photo gear prices in Asia to be significantly better than mailorder from New York.

Except for the time I traded a half-broken Nikon N55 (the cheapo plastic lens housing had cracked) for a used F4 with three Nikon lenses.

My grandad bought my first Nikon F3T on the streets in Bejing for $50US with a 50mm f1.4 and a 2x converter. Now that was a bargain but that was a long time ago too.
