will i have any problems finding an internet cafe or something that will allow me to plug is USB drives into their ports so i can transfer from my camera onto a flash drive or external harddrive or should i just buy an extra memory card for my camera? I would rather buy a flash drive rather than another 1gb memory card for my camera but want to make sure i will be able to have access to transfer them.. i will be travelling all over europe for 3 weeks without my laptop and plan to take more pictures than my card can handle, thanks.

If the PC can recognise the drive without needing extra software then you should be ok, aslong as the internet place you go is running XP. Really depends on the location - always found the less commercial the place was the more I could do with the pc's

Most places will burn them onto CD for you anyway which always seems the easiest option for me. I always get two copies and post one home so I have a backup and a second card is always a good idea just incase.

I usually bring a re-writable cd or two with me, then burn them as i go..this way can always add on until the cd is full, no wasted cds. There are also numerous websites to store photos on, as long as you can get them to the computer.

Just uploading my digi photos to my Flickr account as I write.

No problem finding an internet cafe with a USB port, though it can be a little slow sometimes due to slow connections and that afct that you are uploading full-quality images.

CDs might be best for a short trip like yours, but for longer trips Flickr is a good idea as you don't have to carry loads of cds round with you or mail them home (and possibly get them lost in the post) and you can share photos with people back home really easily.

This is my first time using a digital camera on a two month trip. I have nine 1 gig cards plus an EPSON 2000 to back them up on. Now if only no one steals my gear, I should be fine. Smile

Flickr is definitally an exellent option, however you should always have a back up plan. Back up plan being some kind of hard disk that doesn't rely on an internet connection.

Not everywhere has a broadband connection, some places you may travel to will have a super slow internet connection.

Well...somebody did steal all of my gear, except for the daypack.

So: the camera, SD card and backup cards were gone.

I had not uploaded any of my recent photos to Flickr because I could not find a reasonable broadband connection in rural Sulawesi and the USB port of the machine I used in the internet café in Makassar did not recognize my card reader (that was a fluke, the other machines worked just fine).

As a result of that, I burned a CD with all of the pictures on my memory card. When I later found that CD in my daypack, I was over the moon! Smile

Lesson: You can never have enough backup!

Look into the Hyperdrive 80. I'm using it currently on my 3 month trip to Oz, India, and Myanmar. Reads CF and SD cards directly to a portable 80gig drive.

Hi Simon,
Not only did I think about a PHD, but I own one, and will also back them up on DVDs as I travel. This is one one of the differences between those who shoot for money and those who shoot for fun. I prefere redundancy to watching my images destroyed by one mistake.
