I am looking for a web photo share service that has some key features:

Good full screen slide show
Good dowload tool
Good layout/management tool
Good high res ability
I want it all!

I tried Pixagogo, and everything was good except the layout tool would not work (it could have been my large volume of photos). I have emailed support like four times, and nobody attends to the forums/blogs for support so those went unanswered also. I spent a good day dowloading and hate to go somewhere else, but the layout tool just won't run.

Thanks!

Any suggestions?

smugmug is one of the better ones, but it still has some limitations. To truly have full control, the best way to go is to use Gallery --

here are some of my old photos and a friends of mine's site that use the Gallery software. (It's free, by the way.)

benefits of Gallery: it has all the features you want, is free to download and use, and is completely advertising free, and it's easy to use (once setup).

drawbacks: you have to pay for your own webspace to host it ($5/month or so) -- and you have to have a touch of tech knowledge to set it up.

if that's something you may want to tackle, I can probably help you get it setup and running in under an hour.

I agree about Gallery. That's what I use for my web site.

A third vote for gallery and self hosting.

It's great having full control over the gallery from layout, to image sizes to permissions. However, another possible drawback is you really must keep it uptodate with new releases which could be an issue if you're travelling.

Thanks everyone for the feedback...And I like the pictures on your site and friends site on Gallery, thanks for sharing!

I checked out the two recommended:Smugmug and Gallery

Gallery seems to have two drawbacks for me:
1) No FULL SCREEN slide show that I could see (this is really important to me). Am I missing something?
2) Self hosting/hosting service requirement...More tech knowledge/skills - (maybe I would be OK with this as I have some abilities)

Smugbug has a nice full screen slide show, but it seems to run a little slow. I think it may be my best option at this point...I'll test a few more slide shows and see if the issue persists.

There's two slideshow options for gallery.

Embedded in the web page which will be at whatever size the viewer selects, or the owner allows.

There's is also a fullscreen option via a java applet.

Couple of examples (these will be lo-res versions as I limit the full sized image to those who have accounts/logged in).

Embeded:

Fullscreen:

Hope that helps Smile

You guys are awesome!!!

Thank you for the clue about Gallery (and for sharing your full scren slide show material, it's perfect! I love what you both have done with Gallery).

Now to figure out if I can handle the technical aspects of using Gallery (ok I sell software but I'm no developer) Razz

Ciao!
