I'm going travelling next month and as I lost my camera recently, I'm getting one as a going away present but don't know what to get. Any suggestions for a good camera for travelling? A point and click around the €200 mark would be cool but all suggestions welcome. Don't think I'll bother with a digital as I've heard you can have trouble finding places to upload images on the road

Hi!

In fairness, I had the same idea before I went travelling last year... But as you know yourself, prices in Ireland are a bit steep. If you're interested in SLR cameras, I'd wait til I was abroad. I don't know whereabouts you intend travelling to, but I got a great deal on a Pentax MZ60 in the duty free in Darwin...

Imagine getting the base, a 28-90mm lens, and a 100-300mm lens, free tripod and camera bag for about AU$550... E275 or so?!? Not a chance at home.

You get it less tax if you intend to leave the country within a couple of days, or just hang on to your receipt and you'll get your tax back that way. Best and easiest way is to pay by credit card and they can just give it back through that.

Also... Sydney airport is more expensive than Darwin... by a good AU$50.

But sure, maybe all you're interested in is a point and click, which is well handy if you just want one to lug around, and won't give you grey hairs if you intend doing something strenuous and bruising!!!

In that instance, the sales are on!!! Maybe grab a digital camera and as well as saving you the hassle of films, you can burn your images to cd along the way (mostly anywhere)... be able to see if your shot took straight off... and be able to email jpegs to friends and family at home to show them categorically that you're alive and well!

Hope that helped you a bit.

Enjoy your travels!!!

Happy new year,
Caroline
