I am hoping to save my photos to cd while travelling round the world, is this something that can easily be done in most countries and how do you do it.Please have patience with me as I have little knowledge of cameras. Have to say I have never downloaded uploaded photos from a camera. In fact I haven't bought the camera yet. Had hoped my husbad would take charge of this one but I'm afraid it's not going to happen so I might as well get on with it.

It would probably be better to save onto a portable USB hard drive or a multiple gigabyte data key using a Belkin USB Anywhere portable hub to interface between the camera and the device you choose. I get the feeling, though, that you probably don't understand a word of what I'm saying. Check out this thread for more information.

A lot of more touristed places in South America have photo shops, where they download the pics from your memory card and burn it to cd. You have to be aware, though, that some may not be the smartest people and may accidentally erase your memory card. I've also heard of some pics missing after a download like that...just depends on the shop.

I had a hard time finding a USB port where I was travelling as well, so I gave in and did the photo shop thing. It might be worth it to you to bring a card reader or the USB cord for your camera on the trip. One place in Argentina, they had to use my card reader since they didn't have one of their own, even though they burned photos to cd...

Best thing to do is get the camera and understand it, upload pictures to your computer to see how it works, for your own knowledge. That way, if you do take it to a photo shop and if they have questions, you know how to do it and can walk them through if they need to.

I agree with Corvinus. I use my iPod as the hard drive, and it works out extremely well.

I used photo shops to burn to CDs when I was away - it seemed to work well, and they will usually show you the pictures as well.

Sound advice would be to make 2 copies of every photo and keep them both in different places. I would burn to CD at any internet cafe in the world, AND download to my iPod. When flying I would check my CD's and keep my iPod with me. Always in different bags too. If one was stolen I'd have copies of the other.

Thanks everyone for your advice it's much appreciated. I'm copying all your comments and I'll have explained all the things I'm not so sure about. I use a USB conection on my computer for saving data, my daughter bought this for me but I'm not sure what the rest means Jim. Is an iPod storage for music, clearly I don't have one. We'll be away for about 12 months how many photos would this hold.
