Gotta Love the GB

I know, I know, two questions in one night!! Sorry Razz

Anyway, I have to buy a new digicam for work in the next 4 days or so. It has to fit in my pocket. It will almost entirely be used for taking pictures of people. Olympus and Panasonic pocket-sized cam's have that image stabilization thingy (is it all it's hyped up to be?), but I've heard Canon and Sony have better shutter reaction time which is good for candids. A good chunk of the pics will be taken in a dark, night club setting.

Suggestions?? Rants? Raves?

I have an old Sony 2MP. Digi zoom. Shutter time is good. Low light and close shots are quite good too. Just had problems trying to get "time lapse" photos...seems digis don't do THAT too well.

if you're going to take most of your pics in a 'dark, night club setting' you're going to have to use a flash anyway, so don't worry too much about IS and such. IS is great, but it only helps a couple stops which won't do anything for ya in the dark.

I have a friend with a Panasonic who is happy.

I have an Olympus FE-190. It takes nice pics and fits in my pocket. I got it for around 160$ or so, so it was pretty inexpensive for a 6MP camera. I stuck with Olympus because I already had the memory cards for it. Anyway, I really like it. Quick shutter speed, too.

I have a Canon sd700IS. The image stabilization is definitely nice but like surfing dan said, it's still going to take mediocre photos at best in low light.

The price of memory cards is going down fast, so I no longer think that's a significant criterion. I just picked up some 1- and 2-GB SD memory cards for peanuts, plus they had sizeable rebates.

can you post up or PM me details Jim? I'm in the process of switching to an all-SD camera fleet.
