Simon,

I've had a 350d for around 9 months now and i'm extremely happy with it. Its a very small and light weight SLR which produces fantastic results (best in class). If your really in to photography, then buy one without question. You need to be aware that it can be hassle to carry it around sometimes, especially if you got a few lenses like me. The battery power is far superier to digicams, one battery lasted me 3 days whilst on a trek (and then some) + you can buy spare ones on ebay real cheap. You need to be really careful when taking the camera into a real rain forest like in Malaysia (as with any electrical device). Mine actually got damaged this way as conditions were so wet (even when it didn't rain!). For this reason I'd recommend good insurance. If you have any more questions then don't hesitate to ask (especially in regards to lenses),

cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt, thanks for replying, I actually bought the camera yesterday!!!!!! Oh my God I´m SO happy, i was dreaming of it for the last couple of month and now I finaly have it =)
I got it with the normal 18-55mm, 1Gb memory card, 2 batteries, UV filter, and bought a Canon 90-300mm (wich is WOW!! and it was very cheap 179 €) and a Lowepro Macro Trekker 200, to fit everything in.

And about lenses, I´m a botanist and love to take pics of flowers, would you recomend a Macro or do you think a magnifying lens (those things you put in front of the lens) is enough? Macros are so expensive!!

cheers

If you want high quality images of flowers I'd reccommend a proper macro lense, if you can afford it. The sigma ex 50mm macro or the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro are both fantastic for flowers (both around £150-£200 i think). If you like shooting insects than you may want to go for something with more reach, at least 90mm. If you want to look into it a bit more than try these websites:

- http://www.fredmiranda.com (great lense reviews)
- http://www.dpreview.com (great forum when you need help!)

hope that helps, drop me a line anytime :-)

Congrats on your 350D...it's an awesome camera no doubt.

If weight is an issue the magnifying filters might be more desirable than another heavy (and expensive) lens.

Hola Matt and Iamadonut, thank you to both of you, I think both have right, and I probably do both of the things (lens and magnifying filter. Right now I´m kinda of travelling, I mean kinda, because I´m staying in Barcelona for at least 4 month more and then heading to Ibiza and then travelling. But the thing is that I´m not form Spain, I´m colombian.
I think I´ll buy a magnifying filter now, for any picture that I want to shoot, and then when I go back to Colombia (January 2007, I think...) I´ll buy the proper lens, because then is when I´m gonna use it for my projects.

What about the magnifying filters, do they come in differents magnifying capacities? like 10X , 20X ??

Gracias

Gosh, I don't remember exactly because its been years since I had a set, but I seem to recall the (cheap) set I had consisted of 3 filters, around 2x, 3x and 5x...something like that. Im not sure you can get as heavy as 20x but I could be dead wrong...
