I find that travel photography is a way to relieve your own personal memories of a certain destination, or a certain moment in time. When I look back at my photos there's a huge rush of memories that come flooding back - things I may have forgotten about how the weather was that day, about the sounds, about who was around me, things like that.

When I look at other people's photographs (and I work at a photo store part time, so I see a lot of them), I love to look at their travel pictures. To see what they considered important enough to put on film. To see what really matters to them when they travel. I also like to daydream about going to wherever they went, printing off the bright, vibrant colours. My best developing work is always the result of travel photos!

I love shooting photographs, but I hate it when I travel. I always prefer to do it at home. ALthough I will be shooting my brains out on my trip, I know that there are times I just need to experience what I am doing. I often find that the compulsion to photograph the most beautiful and interesting aspects of my journeys get in the way of actually experiencing those same things. I often have to force myself to put down the camera and just chill out.

I agree PC.

I shot a lot of pics for work, so when I travel between jobs, I sometimes want to forget about the camera.

In the Alps for example, I was totally immersed in the ride, but I knew that I needed to stop and take some pics for my own memories and because I'll be publishing some articles about riding through the Alps.

The hassle of using an SLR combined with riding a bike annoys me sometimes as well. If I want to take a shot on the road I need to stop, take helmet, gloves off, get camera out, fit lens, take shot and put it all away again...

I own a camera mainly for those travel shots. I rarely take things around my house, unless it's a group of friends or family gathering for a party or something.

I just leave my 28-90mm lens attached to my SLR. I use it the most, so I can whip it out rather quickly.

"Travel photography" for me is two things (on two different cameras):

-pictures on my SLR (slide film) for my artistic shots that maybe I'd submit somewhere

-quick digital "tourist" pictures to take photos of people I meet, things I eat, etc.

Yes, it IS also important to take a time out here and there to just enjoy the traveling.
