These come up from time to time, and I thought it might be a good idea to collect them all here. If you see or know of one that people could submit photos to, put the entry information - or, better yet, a weblink - here for everyone to see.
And good luck to everyone who enters a photo contest! |

Adding this one to this thread; it's already up, but here it is again to start things off...
You could win a trip to Mexico with your photo of a World Heritage site. Find out details here. |

Perceptive Travel is giving away a Citiescape Asia box set (one of those lovely Lonely Planet things) to the winner of its photo contest. Deadline is Feb. 28, 2007, and the photo must be from one of the following cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon, Tokyo, Sydney, Kathmandu, Singapore, or Bejing.

LP has a running photo contest via their Flickr group. I can't find anything about prizes (beyond bragging rights), so if you find something about that, post it here.

American Rivers is hosting a photo contest for (you guessed it) river pictures. Deadline is February 28.

Re the river photo contest. I just looked at the link, and as far as I can tell, the grand prize in each category is....."American Rivers" gets to use your photo on their website. That's just crazy generous.

Ha... I didn't see that (obviously). Yes, they are overflowing with generosity, aren't they? Well, at least they didn't say, "When you win, you get to pay us to use your picture!" (Oh, crap, did I just give them an idea?)

be careful about which contests you enter and READ THE FINE PRINT!
Many want you to submit your best images, which become the property of the company sponsoring the event. This means they can use your image, forever, to make money, did i mention forever? Most of these "contests" are ruses designed to get cheap (free) images. You are giving away your rights when you enter these contests. Please do yourself and everyone out there a favor and READ THE FINE PRINT. Don't let yourself be suckered into giving away your best images for free. |

Thanks for the warning. I never thought that a contest could be used in this way. |

It's time again for the annual National Geographic Traveler photo contest. I think I'm going to send in some entries this year. Who else is going to?

I would enter... but I don't want to pay the $12 per photo entry fee. I just can't bring myself to pay to enter to maybe (but probably not) win a prize....

I'm going to enter, why not. Yes there's a fee, but with the big guys there usually is! Thanks for posting the link Jessie.

I know of one that looks really good! Its called Fields of the World, that 1-800-Flowers is having. All you have to do is submit a photo and tell them a story behind the photo, preferable a little info about the country and why you took the photo. Pretty easy huh? Here's the link: http://1800flowers.eprize.net/fieldsoftheworld/

Found this competition for those in Australia, being run by Lonely Planet and Angus and Robertson bookstores. Was going to enter until I read this in the conditions.....
15. On submission, your entry becomes the property of Lonely Planet, and you give Lonely Planet a worldwide, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate and broadcast all or part of it in any form and media, and to sublicense those rights (including to Lonely Planets related companies, licensee publishers and partners). You also consent to Lonely Planet editing, re-using, storing, reproducing and communicating your entry in any medium. Lonely Planet will decide whether you should be attributed. Bastards. |
